Fun Holiday Attractions and Events in North Carolina This Christmas Season

Holiday spirits are high in the city of High Point, NC this season. The town is gearing up for Christmas by hosting several holiday events and inspiring High Point residents to get involved in their community and see all the area has to offer.

Two main attractions of the holiday season are the 12th Annual High Point Holiday Uptowne Stroll and the Tanglewood Festival of Lights.

The 12th Annual High Point Holiday Uptowne Stroll is one of the most exciting and crowded events that the city holds each year.

This event encourages residents of High Point and surrounding areas to shop at and support local businesses during the holidays. The small businesses provide snacks and have interactive games or giveaways.

Cindy Cecil, Owner of Cindy Lou’s Boutique and Gifts tries to make this event something really special for shoppers. Cecil arranged a Cindy Lou Who and the Grinch meet and greet with customers and set up a hot apple cider and a giveaway station inside.

“I am so grateful for High Point,” Said Cecil. “Shopping locally has never been more important than this year.”

During the stroll, people can buy stockings and at each stocking stuffer location, they will get a free gift. A few stores were handing out Christmas tree ornaments and other holiday themed presents. All the money raised from the stockings is donated to a charity.

Cecil states that “presales of stocking stuffers brings excitement” and gets the public more engaged in the event.

Christina Payne, the business development manager at the High Point Visitor Center hopes that this event will bring more people to High Point and “Make them aware of what we have to offer.”

Not only were there stocking stuffers, there were also Llamas. The visitor center was offering a selfie with a Llama and the chance to walk it around the parking lot. “This is our biggest attraction,” said Payne.

The Stroll has taken place for 12 years and is located between State Avenue and Ray Avenue on Main Street.

The second Holiday attraction is the Tanglewood Festival of lights. This event is located in Clemmons, North Carolina and has been around for 30 years.

Ellie Abel, a High Point University student visited the attraction and said “It was very relaxing and quiet and allowed for quality time with those I was with.”

The Lights show is open from 6pm-11pm except New Years Eve. Long lines and slow moving traffic is expected for the weekend.

“We were able to drive at our own pace so we could enjoy and take it all in, Stated Ellie. “The lights were really pretty and well designed.”

These Holiday events have certainly lifted spirits in High Point and other areas. Community engagement and support to small businesses has helped High Point as a city grow and flourish.
